Student development network brainstorms planning according to KKU strategic plans

Division of Student Development and Alumni Relation of KKU held a seminar for Student Development and Service Network that responds to KKU strategic plans 

            June 17, 20-22, 2019 – Division of Student Development and Alumni Relation of Khon Kaen University held a seminar on “Student Development and Service” in order to enable the network to understand and know how to efficiently provide advices to students. During the seminar, a brainstorming session was also held to draft planning of different projects that answer the university’s strategic plans. 

            The opening ceremony was held on June 17, 2019 with Mrs. Papakorn Dolprasit, Director of Division of Student Development and Alumni Relation reporting to Assoc. Prof. Piansak Phakdee, Vice President for Student Development and Nongkhai Campus, who presided over the event. Then Dr. Nattakorn Jampathong, Director of Rachanagarin Khon Kaen Mental Hospital gave a talk of “The situation of psychiatric problem: Necessity to improve the care system”. The afternoon session was honored to have Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, Acting President of Khon Kaen University to lecture on “Strategic Administrative Plans of Khon Kaen University: for Student Development”. The talk was followed by another talk on “Negotiation during Crisis” by Ajarn Kanda Pawong, a senior professional psychiatrist of Rachanagarin Khon Kaen Mental Hospital. The day ended by a session on “Counseling techniques for personnel” by Ajarn Jintana Singkorn-at, a senior professional psychiatrist of Srinagarind University.

            Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, Acting President of Khon Kaen University discussed in his talk on “Strategic Administrative Plans of Khon Kaen University: for Student Development” two major topics: “The present problems of students and graduates” which comprise: (1) Lack of disciplines and soft skill of the graduates who enter the workforce; (2) Family problems which need solution through a Counseling Room;  (3) The present educational system causes tension among students (Critical Error) leading to necessity to improve instructional processes such as applying learning paradigm or competency-based learning. The second topic of his talk was “Khon Kaen University’s Strategic-Based Student Development”: (1) Student development is not clearly spelled out in the strategic plans, but is part of the ‘PEOPLE’ pillar, which includes lecturers, personnel, and students. (2) Student development in the ‘Education Transformation’ period involves the process to enable thinking more than  knowledge and developing of soft skills, environmental development, and supporting students by means of potential group building. 

            June 20-22 began with a special talk on, “Development in the 21st Century” by Asst. Prof. Narin Jansri, Assistant to the President for Student Development and Nongkhai Campus, followed by the network relationship building activities by Ajarn Sopita Daosodsai and her team. The event also features a workshop run by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Paiboon Daosodsai, Dean of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science on the topic: “Planning Student Development and Alumni”. The event took place at Phu Vanalee Resort, Khao Yai, Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima.

           All of the participants attending the relationship strengthening activities and other activities will bring the knowledge and experiences obtained to apply in their work. Another important session was the brainstorming for approaches to provide services and supports to students that will enhance their skills, knowledge, understanding in order to increase the future student development work.
