Med lecturers and students join Marginalized Doctor Camp in Bueng Kan

With collaboration from IFMSA, Faculty of Medicine from Khon Kaen University and Chulalongkorn University host the 3rd Marginalized Doctor Camp to promote people’s health

International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA) collaborated with Faculty of Medicine from Khon Kaen University and Chulalongkorn University to organize the 3rd Marginalized Doctor Camp to promote health of people in Bueng Kan and encourage them to protect themselves from diseases. Another objective was to obtain experience and be inspired to be a dedicated doctor working hard on public health of people in remote areas.

Faculty of Medicine, KKU, led by Dr. Waranon Munkong (MD), Assistant to the Dean for Student Affairs, said that Faculty of Medicine saw the importance of being healthy, which was quality that everyone should have equally, regardless of birthplace or nationality. Therefore, he led lecturers and students from KKU to join this camp. There were also lecturers of Faculty of Medicine from both Khon Kaen University and Chulalongkorn University and 100 students who were medical students of every year from all over Thailand participated in the camp.       

The 3rd Marginalized Doctor Camp was from June 8-9, 2019 at Bueng Kan Province. There was workshop for pre-clinic medical students to examine as well as practice basic history taking and to learn about Cholangiocarcinoma, indicating high incidence in the Northeast of Thailand, so that these medical students could give advice to the patients. On the next day lecturers and medical students participated in examining and treating patients in Ho Kham Sub-district, Muang District, Bueng Kan Province.

 Dr. Waranon Munkong added that it was a great opportunity for KKU medical students to gain experience by practicing with and applying what they had learned to real cases. They would see people living in poverty and having no access to medical treatment. Faculty of Medicine, KKU, highly hoped that KKU medical students would become real doctors dedicates to helping patients.
