KKU Faculty of Medicine Presents a Spectacular Charity Mor Lam Concert to Support Stroke Patients

Faculty of Medicine KKU in collaboration with the Mor Lam Ruang Tor Klon Club, Mor Lam troupes, and a collective of folk musicians, is set to host an extraordinary event: the “HOPE for Health Charity Concert: Artists Unite for Stroke Patients.” This grand concert, featuring over 200 performers, will take place on September 7, 2024, at the Golden Jubilee Convention Center, Khon Kaen University. The event aims to raise funds to support stroke patients, with all proceeds going directly to Srinagarind Hospital.

During the press conference held on August 14, 2024, Ajarn Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Assistant to the President for Special Affairs, shared the driving force behind this initiative: “Stroke is the third leading cause of death in Thailand, and many who survive face lifelong disabilities that severely impact their quality of life. These patients often require extensive and expensive medical care, which can place a significant financial burden on their families. The Stroke Fund, established by Srinagarind Hospital under the Faculty of Medicine, is committed to providing top-quality care to these patients, ensuring that they receive the medical support they need without any financial barriers.”

Khon Kaen University is not only a beacon of academic excellence but also a stronghold of cultural preservation. In line with its mission to uphold and promote cultural heritage, the university’s Mor Lam Ruang Tor Klon Club has teamed up with Srinagarind Hospital to organize this charity concert. “This event is a unique blend of cultural celebration and philanthropy,” said Ajarn Natsamol. “We are uniting our cultural heritage with a noble cause, ensuring that every penny raised will go towards helping those in need.”

Assoc. Prof. Pattarapong Makarawate, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, emphasized the significance of this concert: “The HOPE for Health Charity Concert is not just an event; it’s a lifeline for underprivileged stroke patients who require specialized procedures such as Thrombectomy and Coil Embolization. Srinagarind Hospital is the only facility in the northeastern region equipped to perform these advanced treatments. Through this concert, we aim to ensure that financial constraints do not stand in the way of life-saving care.”

The concert has garnered overwhelming support from the Mor Lam community. Mr. Sumitsak Phollam, President of the Mor Lam Ruang Tor Klon Club, expressed his enthusiasm: “Our club is honored to support this charity concert. We’ve brought together top Mor Lam troupes, including the Rabieb Bantheng Sin and Jai Kern Roi troupes, to create a memorable event that not only entertains but also preserves our cultural heritage while contributing to a meaningful cause.”

Boy Sirichai, Head of the Mor Lam Jai Kern Roi Troupe, added, “This is a rare and wonderful opportunity for Mor Lam and folk artists to give back to the community. We understand the devastating impact of stroke, and we’re eager to lend our support. Artists thrive because of the support from society, and this is our chance to show our gratitude. We’re also excited to have influencers join us in this effort, making this concert a true collective endeavor.”

The inspiration for this event came from the experience of Ja Loi Henry, a folk singer who received treatment for a stroke at Srinagarind Hospital. After successful treatment and rehabilitation, he was able to return to his passion for music. His journey of recovery has inspired a community of artists to come together in full force to support this concert.
