July 23, 2024 – Khon Kaen held the Letter of Intention signing ceremony with Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU), People’s Republic of China. The Letter of Intention was signed by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., Khon Kaen University and Prof. Dr. YAN Xuedong, President of Southwest Jiaotong University. Administrators from both Universities, after the ceremony that took place at Sirikunakorn Room 5, 6th Floor, Sirikunakorn Building, met to discuss educational collaboration.
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, said, “Khon Kaen University is pleased to work with Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) from the People’s Republic of China, a world class renowned university for transportation and high speed engineering. My great appreciation and thanks to the President, administrators and staff of SWJTU for the welcoming and excellent care of the first group of 18 students from Khon Kaen University, who arrived at Southwest Jiaotong University on November 11, 2023, for their one year study in SWJTU, which marks our collaborative history.”
“The signing of the Letter of Intention this time has 3 key objectives: designing a 2-degree program in high speed engineering, exchange of students of both universities, and training and development of manpower with skills and knowledge to work for the high speed railway system. The work under the Letter of Intention this time will principally be under the responsibility of the Faculty of Engineering of Khon Kaen University to implement everything for the above objectives. Your presidency visit to Khon Kaen University and our meeting is held as relationship tightening between our two universities. And I hope we are more than ready to work together for the future.”
Prof. Dr. YAN Xuedong, President of Southwest Jiaotong University, said, “Southwest Jiaotong University has 3 outstanding areas: 1) We have a long history in transportation, engineering, and high peed train. 2) Our wide program varieties are being provided for roughly 60,000 students while, with our 4 campuses, academic collaboration is ongoing with 70 countries all over the world. 3) Our rapid progress has brought us awards in all engineering fields. Therefore, our university is able to guaratee the qualities of programs and our fields of expertise.”
“When compared to Khon Kaen University, Southwest Jiaotong Jiaotong Univerity has similar expertise like Khon Kaen University. Thus, the signing of this Letter of Intention demonstrates the advanced development in the future.”
The signing of this Letter of Intention emphasizes the development of a 3+2 joint degree program, in which students study at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, or in the High Speed Train Engineering program, Khon Kaen University, for 3 years and in train system in SWJTU for 2 years. This joint degree program is another step of success of Khon Kaen University in building academic collaboration with world class leading universities that will lead to development of knowledge and skills of students and personnel, internationalization and developmental support in the Mekong Subregion. It truly deploys the 9th strategy on internationalization and socio-cultural and economic promotion in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).
