The Health and Exercise Promotion Project of the fiscal year 2020 or KKU Healthy Life Run 2 was ongoing for 2 years, and was aimed at promoting good health among staff members by regular exercising. This leads to pleasant feelings and emotion, while the free time is used for their own benefits, also resulting in unity among colleagues.

Assoc. Prof. Kriengkrai Kitcharoen, Ph.D., Vice President for Human Resources said that the Health and Exercise Promotion Project of the fiscal year 2019 was successful with over 1,120 staff members joining. The event this year had been the second time. Over 853 people from all parts of KKU applied. The running distance to be accumulated began on May 1, 2020. Shirts were given out twice, firstly on August 4, to 100 participants, divided into 70 people doing 200 km and 30 people doing 500 km. Then on August 28, there were 150 runners, divided into 115 people doing 200 km and 35 people doing 500 km. On the last day, shirts were given out to 222 runners, 170 completing 200 km and 52 completing 500 km. 16 staff members did the highest distance of each batch, receiving a trophy. 45 received certificates for the three best runners of each group. The greatest distance accumulated was 4,309.58 km.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., KKU President congratulated the Human Resources Division for the success of the event because there were a lot of KKU folks joining the project. This project allowed staff to do something for themselves. It is certain that those who joined would develop strong body and mind resulting in efficient service provision to the society.

“It is hard to believe that one person did as far as 4,309.58km.That is an excellent statistics. Meanwhile, participants have built good health for themselves, which is the goal of the project. The first prize that everyone is awarded is good health, other prizes are side effects. Successful runners can also relate their success with colleagues and inspire them also. It is expected that everyone will maintain the exercising intention for good health. Especially, we are now in the long life society. We will live until 100 years. What helps us to reach that age is exercising and having the Body Mass Index or BMI within 22.9. This certainly enables you to live long,” said the President.

Mrs. Lapaporn Jitwiriyanon, a professional nurse from the Medical Outpatient Ward 8, Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, who made the highest distance in the age group of 36-45 years, female category revealed that she always exercises for health. So when KKU organized this KKU Healthy Life Run 2, she exercised more as she wanted to compete with her colleagues. From the usual distance 10 km per day, she increased it to 12, 15, or 20 km.

“I ran continuously. I did it like this before. I rarely became lazy, even on the exhausting day from work. I told myself to fight against fatigue and this is like making myself determined. The more I had tension, the better I ran. I never told myself that there was no time. I would think it was only an hour after work. I had to make it. My intention was to run 20 km in the morning and 10 in the evening. It was exhausting but we gained strength. Everyone has 24 hours a day, so why can’t we spend 30 minutes to one hour for exercise. Our health will improve. The outcome may not be visible in one or two months, but the good health is there for a long time ahead,” said Mrs. Lapaporn.
