COLA KKU organized a training program for Loa PDR academics with support from World Bank
August 28-31, 2019 – College of Local Administration of Khon Kaen University and the ASEAN Learning Center for Public Affairs Administration, organized academic training for academics and researchers from the neighboring countries. Fifteen administrators, lecturers and researchers from Faculty of Social Sciences, National University of Laos (NUOL), from Lao PDR led by Associate Professor Dr. Dexanourath Seneduangdeth, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, NOUL joined the training that was on “Social Impact and Relocation Management of Hydropower Project for Administrators and Faculty Members of the Faculty of Social Sciences, National University of Laos, Lao PDR.
The training was financially supported by the World Bank and was aimed at building knowledge and understanding, exchanging of experience, and visiting the real area where people are affected by construction of power dam. The issues emphasized were allocation of articles, movement of communities and subsistent land of the affected people. The area was selected at Ubonrat Dam, Khon Kaen as the learning center. Three activities were carried out including: 1) exchanging and sharing of academic topics with experts from COLA; 2) site visits to both governmental and private organizations dealing with community management and management of dams; and 3) learning and sharing with local leaders and local people affected from dam construction. At the end, participants had a brainstorming session to reflect their ideas, present the ways to solve the problems, and give recommendations for policy planning that will lead to true operations.
