Applying academic good governance in development of KKU graduates

KKU Education Section and Student Development Section held a workshop on “Applying Academic Good Governance in development of KKU Graduates”

August 23-25, 2019 at Seminar Room 1, 9th Floor, Pianvijitr Building, Faculty of Engineering – Education Section joined Student Development Section to hold a workshop on “Applying Academic Good Governance in development of KKU Graduates”, aiming to build knowledge and understanding in academic good governance among personnel and to strengthen personnel and students’ competence in the knowledge and skills as negotiators who are able to peacefully reconcile conflicts.

The opening ceremony on August 23 was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul M.D., Adviser to KKU Acting President. Assoc. Prof. Maitree Intaraprasith, Vice President for Education conveyed the reporting speech. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul M.D. said, “This workshop is held on a very important issue as it will instill the value and culture of integrity in our graduates-to-be and among the personnel. The workshop will also cover the process of reconciliation and will make those violating academic regulations and practices become aware of the arising impact and hence adjust their behaviors. This is better than the former system of disciplinary or academic punishment.”

The workshop was honored to have the guest speakers form RUC School, Khon Kaen: Prof. Vanchai Vadhanasap M.D. (Former KKU President) and his team and Mr. Pratchaya Yuprasert, Chief Judge of Court of Appeals (KKU Alumnus Class 13, Faculty of Agriculture).

The training involved all participants to learn about Restorative Justice in facilitated discussion that will lead to reconciliation, the role of facilitators or mediators in restorative justice. Khon Kaen University, as the builder of graduates to become “good and clever” people that will go out to develop the country, must take action in instilling academic good governance in the students. The university has to seek ways to prevent as well as raise awareness of academic fraudulence, that, if happens, needs to be restored or reconciled through the process of justice so that Khon Kaen University will be a place with academic good governance.
