KKU joins Vocational Education to open a space for student practice, enabling students to train in a real situation and acquire occupational skills

Monday July 19, 2021 – Khon Kaen University held an MOU signing ceremony for vocational education programs. The MOU is an academic collaboration between Khon Kaen Technical College, the Northeast Vocational Institute 3, and Khon Kaen University. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University; Asst. Prof. Arwut Yimtae, Vice President for Infrastructure and Environment; Mr. Sitthisak Champati, Director of Khon Kaen Technical College, signed this MOU. The ceremony took place at Kalaphruek Room 6, 2nd Floor, Sirikunakorn Building, Office of the President, Khon Kaen University.

The background of the collaboration is from the request made to Khon Kaen University by Khon Kaen Technical College, the Northeast Vocational Institute 3 to provide practicum venue at the Building and Facility Division for occupational training of their undergraduate students majoring in Electrical Technology from May 31, 2021 until February 11, 2022. Khon Kaen University had taken this matter into consideration and was pleased to welcome the students of Khon Kaen Technical College, the Northeast Vocational Institute 3 to train at the Division. The MOU was thus signed for this purpose.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University said that Khon Kaen University is happy to collaborate with Khon Kaen Technical College, the Northeast Vocational Institute 3, and is pleased that the infrastructural supporting systems, including electricity, tap water, and other utilities in Khon Kaen University will be useful for the students in their training.

“Khon Kaen University is pleased to collaborate with Khon Kaen Technical College, the Northeast Vocational Institute 3. The collaboration will benefit both parties. The students of the college will be trained and Khon Kaen University will have a chance to learn and share with the lecturers who supervise the students. Thanks the college for the initiation, and we hope that your students will obtain experiences from the training. I wish them all success and hope that the two institutions will cooperate for future sustainable development,” said KKU President.

Mr. Sitthisak Champati, Director of Khon Kaen Technical College said that the college offers three levels of programs, vocational certificate programs, higher vocational diploma programs and undergraduate programs. The programs are offered under the Vocational Education Act of 2008, which states that the vocational certificate programs, the higher vocational diploma programs and the undergraduate programs are to be in a two-semester system that requires practices at an entrepreneurial venue. The institution cooperating in the programs must have an MOU with the college.

“Before students complete their programs of studies, they are required to train at an entrepreneurial venue in order to enhance their skills and occupational experiences. Khon Kaen Technical College, the Northeast Vocational Institute 3 sees that the Building and Facility Division of Khon Kaen University is the unit responsible for infrastructures, utilities and environment, and thus will answer the requirements of the program in electrical technology. Therefore, we proposed our request for student practice here, so that the students will train in the field of their studies in a real situation before they go out to work in the future. Here, they will be able to learn and solve arising problems,” said Mr. Sitthisak.

The MOU is valid for 3 years from May 31, 2021 until May 31, 2024. Khon Kaen University will assist the college in designing the instructional and vocational training plans. The students from the college will train with the Building and Facility Division of Khon Kaen University and receive a certificate of training when they complete the program and pass the set criteria.
