Mon 3 Dec. 2018

On November 30, 2018, The Industry Promotion Center Region 1 in Chiang Mai launches an SMEs Spin-Out to Tech Startup activity to promote the startup business. The activity was chaired by Kobchai Sungsitisawat, a director general of Industry Promotion Department under the Ministry of Industry.

Mr. Kobchai said “SMEs Spin-Out to Tech Startup” is held to escalade the competitive capacity of small and medium enterprises (SME) via the support of startup technology. The digital technology should be incorporated into the working process of the SMEs under support from the regional science park of Chiang Mai University. Five other regional science parks are also involved in accelerating and strengthening the SMEs. The science parks work as mentors for the technological startup business in the northeastern region which helps expand investment and create new face enterprises.

There is an MOU signing between the business startups, the Industrial Transformation Center: ITC and 6 regional science parks of Chaing Mai University, Naresuan University, Suranari University of Technology, Ubonratchathani University, Songklanagarind University, and Khon Kaen University. Professor Dr. Supachai Patoomnakoon, a KKU vice president for research and technology and director of Khon Kaen University Science Park, and his academic assistant, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tirawat Laonapakoon, represented KKU in the MOU signing ceremony.

The MOU is aimed to promote small and medium enterprises and startup business under the industrial promotion strategy prompted by Thailand 4.0. It is hoped to disentangled Thailand from a trap of a moderate income nation while strengthening the country’s technology, innovation, and management capacity.
