KKU wins the best parade award of International Silk Festival 2018

   On November 29, 2018 Khon Kaen University led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kriengkrai Kitcharoen, Vice President for Arts, Culture, and Community Relations, with Assoc. Prof. Piansak  Pakdee, Vice President for Student and Alumnus, Affairs, Mr. Bancha  Phraphon, Assistant to the President for Arts, Culture, and Community Relations, and staff from Communication Affairs Division attended opening ceremony of International Silk Festival, Pook Xiao Tradition, and Red Cross Fair 2018 at Khon Kaen City Hall. On this occasion, Mr. Santi Boonsangiam, Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen presided over the ceremony.

   During the ceremony, the result of parade competition of International Silk Festival 2018 was announced, and the winner was Khon Kaen University receiving a trophy from HRH Princess Maha Sirindhorn and the prize money of 60,000 baht.

   The parade by KKU Student Union was presented in the concept of traditional way of life closely engaging with silk weaving. The parade consisted of different groups presenting different ideas – His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn admiration, Pook Xiao or ceremony for strengthening relationship, colorful silk thread, unity of Khon Kaen people, and the beauty of Isan culture presented by the unity of administrators, teachers, students, and alumni totally over 250 people in the parade.

   Silk Festival in Khon Kaen was first held in 1979. Later, Pook Xiao was added to Silk Festival, and in 1983 the Red Cross Fair was held with the previous two events. Therefore, it has been called International Silk Festival, Pook Xiao Tradition, and Red Cross Fair. Since then it has become an annual event held to promote Thai silk and traditional Mud Mee silk which is geographical indication registered by Department of Intellectual Property. These products are ready to compete and expand their market to ASEAN region. This year Khon Kaen Province announce the unique silk weaving pattern called Kan Gan Koon showing a combination of local wisdom. Moreover, Chairperson of World Craft Council has endorsed Khon Kaen as the Mud Mee Silk City of the world, and there is going to be official endorsement ceremony on December 5, 2018. International Silk Festival, Pook Xiao Tradition, and Red Cross Fair 2018 is held from November 29 to December 10, 2018 at the area around Khon Kaen City Hall.
