On May 29, 2024, from 09.30 to 13.00, Khon Kaen University, represented by the Center for Innovation and Sustainability in Society, International College, in collaboration with the National Competitiveness Enhancement Fund Management and Administration Unit (NPC) under the supervision of the National Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Policy Council (NSTDA), launched the research project “Ugly Veggies Plus – Expanding the Business Model Based on Technology, Traceability and Low-Carbon Circular Economy for Sustainable Organic Food Production and Export Supply Chain Management” at the Kandhavas Place Meeting Room, The Athenee Hotel Bangkok. The event was honored by Assistant Professor Sirimonporn Tipsing, Dean of the International College, Khon Kaen University, and Professor Dr. Thidarat Boonmas, Vice President for Innovation and Enterprise, Khon Kaen University, who gave welcoming remarks to researchers, academics, business owners, and the media. ในวงการอุตสาหกรรม การเกษตร การแพทย์ และการท่องเที่ยว รวมทั้งระบบเศรษฐกิจ ทุกวงการคงต้องทำความรู้จักกับคำว่า “BCG Economy” มากขึ้น เพราะรัฐบาลไทยกำลังกระตุ้นให้โมเดลนี้เข้ามาพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจฐานราก ส่งเสริมให้เศรษฐกิจเติบโตแบบก้าวกระโดด กระทั่งมีการตั้งเป้าว่าภายใน 5 ปี จะช่วยเพิ่ม GDP ของไทย เป็น 4.3 ล้านล้านบาท ที่สำคัญจะต้องสร้างสิ่งแวดล้อมของไทยให้สมบูรณ์ รวมถึงจะทำให้ไทยบรรลุเป้าหมายการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน (Sustainable Development Goals : SDG) ขององค์การสหประชาชาติด้วย BCG จึงถูกยกให้เป็นโมเดลที่จะสามารถแก้ไขปัญหาเศรษฐกิจระดับฐานราก โดยใช้การต่อยอดจากโมเดลเดิมที่รัฐบาลพยายามผลักดันอยู่ แต่สอดคล้องกับหลักปรัชญาเศรษฐกิจพอเพียง มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น (มข.) จึงร่วมกับ สำนักงานพัฒนาวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีแห่งชาติ (สวทช.) หารือแนวทางความร่วมมือ เพื่อยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิตคนไทย โดยได้รับเกียรติจาก รศ.นพ.ชาญชัย พานทองวิริยะกุล อธิการบดีมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น พร้อมคณะผู้บริหารมหาวิทยาลัย และ ศ.นพ.ประสิทธิ์ ผลิตผลการพิมพ์ รองผู้อำนวยการ สวทช. พร้อมคณะทำงาน ณ ห้องประชุมสารสิน ชั้น 2 อาคารสิริคุณากร มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น เมื่อวันที่ 19 กุมภาพันธ์ 2564 เวลา
