KKU researchers win awards and scholarships from the 29th event of the Toray Science Foundation Thailand in the individual category of science and technology research. The prize was presented to the research team by the Privy Council President.
March 10, 2023 – Toray Science Foundation Thailand held the 29th award and scholarship presentation ceremony at Bangkok Marriott Hotel the Surawongse. General Surayut Chulanon, President of the Privy Council presided over the ceremony. On this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Nashida Kazuya, Japanese Ambassador to Thailand; Professor Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, Chairman of the Foundation; and Mr. Akihiro Nikkaku, President of Toray Industries Inc. (Japan), joined the ceremony. Prof. Alissara Ruangsaeng, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Technology, won the individual category at the 29th Award Presentation Ceremony of Toray Science Foundation. Scholarship awards were also presented at the 29th Award Presentation in science and technology research, for the study of the property of rice flour for adsorption and low digestion to decrease sugar indicator by Dr. Tidarat Monkham from the Faculty of Agriculture and the study on indigenous herb extract for suppression of sugar addition on protein in liver cell cancer by Dr. Jarupong Saengboonmee from the Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Tidarat Boonmars, Ph.D., KKU Vice President for Innovation and Enterprise and Asst. Prof. Araya Chaoruangrit, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Technology also attended the ceremony and congratulated the prize awardees at Bangkok Marriott Hotel the Surawongse.
Prof. Alissara Ruangsaeng, Ph.D., representing the prize awardees delivered the thankful speech to Toray Science Foundation for seeing the importance of personnel in the field of science and technology research for a long period of over 29 years. The prizes and the research scholarship are awarded only after good selection and screening has been carried out. It can be ascertained that the works and the projects being awarded are of good quality, useful for the science circle and worth the pride. The awards, besides empowering the researchers with inspiration to create more work outcomes, also build quality personnel in the field of science and technology, covering researchers who are professors, science teachers in schools and lecturers and researchers in research institutes and universities.
General Surayut Chulanon, President of the Privy Council explained about the importance of the development of strength in science and technology, which is the key foundation for social and economic improvement as well as the quality of life of people in the country. The development is also important as it leads the country towards sustainability in the future. The Foundation has continuously taken major role in promoting knowledge, competency and awareness of the importance of science and technology in Thailand. Thus, this is the major force that propels the national development, especially in human resource in science and technology. Finally, the President of the Privy Council congratulated the prize awardees who are the key personnel in the development of science and technology of the country.
“From the BCG Policy of the government that aims at upgrading industries and protecting the environment; and the “National Energy Policy” that promotes intensive implementation towards carbon neutral and the expansion of electric vehicles, the Toray Group intends to expand the business and technology in this regard, including the “green innovation businesses” that deals with environmental problems and “Innovations for Life” that aims at the convenient and healthy living. When the awarded projects are categorized, there are 7 projects on medicine and biotechnology, 8 material technology projects, 6 environmental and engineering projects and 1 basic science project. All projects are working on research and development that correspond to the target of the country. It is hoped that these projects will integrate with the advanced technology of Toray and lead Thailand to another level of development.
