Faculty of Engineering, KKU, marks an outstanding record for being ranked the 2nd of the country in Engineering by SCImago Institutions Ranking 2021.
The SCImago Institutions Ranking (SIR) in 2021 ranks Faculty of Engineering of Khon Kaen University the second of Thailand in the field of Engineering, which comprises 15 institutions as follows:

Assoc. Prof. Ratchaphon Suntivarakorn, Ph.D. Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Khon Kaen University related about the Faculty’s outstanding outcomes that led to the 2nd rank in the SCImago Institutions Ranking (SIR) in 2021. “The Faculty is pleased and proud of the success which comes from the lecturers, personnel and students of the Faculty. The ranking this time is based on the research and innovations, which correspond to the key missions of the Faculty in answering the needs of the country. This includes research studies, engineering services, inventions and innovations, registration of patents and petty patents. The success is part of the Faculty’s strategic plans that involve transformation of research and innovations for the society, learning and building collaboration networks that lead to internationalization. The Faculty’s flagship is towards the World Ranking, which is associated to the Faculty’s vision to become an ASEAN leading engineering institution in instruction, research and development. The target is to be one out of 5 of the country and one out of ten in ASEAN. The outcome this time reflects the continuous attempts and development until we are able to be a leading engineering institution of the country, which also builds confidence among the parents and the public in the quality of instruction, research and services of the Faculty. I am grateful to everyone who has been involved in the work and we are determined to continue to develop so that the communities can rely on our Faculty. We will also support the strengthening of the competitive competence of Thai industries and build social values from sustainable development.”
SCImago Institutions Ranking (SIR) is an international ranking institution that emphasizes international research work. The institutions entering the ranking include other specialized institutions such as technological institutions, colleges, hospitals, research institutes. The ranking is based on the capacities in publication of academic work outcomes, with the following indicators taken into account:
- 1. Research (50%) comprising academic papers, journals, research work, citations, number of academic authors, based on Scopus data
- 2. Innovation (30%) comprising innovations and knowledge, patents, or publicized works in science cited in the patents, based on PATSTAT (Patent Statistical Database)
- 3. Societal (20%) considered from the website sizes, the number of web pages connected to the institution’s URL, number of subnets connected to the access to the websites and quantity of documents, information and news of the institution publicized in social media.
