KKU and MHESI join 135 sub-districts to upgrade socio-economic status and enhance new community occupations

Khon Kaen University’s Innovation and Enterprise Section held a Zoom meeting to give details of the Sub-district Integrated Socio-Economic Upgrading (1 sub-district 1 university) project at Sirikunakorn 3, Office of the President, Khon Kaen University.

Monday November 9, 2020 from 15:00 to 17:00 p.m., at Sirikunakorn 3 (3rd Floor), Sirikunakorn Building, Office of the President, Khon Kaen University – The Innovation and Enterprise Section held a Zoom Meeting online to clarify the Sub-district Integrated Socio-Economic Upgrading (1 sub-district 1 university) Project. Over 230 people attended including representatives of all Industrial Councils in the Upper Northeast provinces, Khon Kaen Mayor, presidents of 135 sub-district administrative organizations, KKU administrators, deans or representatives. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University welcomed the attendants while Prof. Thidarat Boonmars, Vice President for Innovation and Enterprise explained about the background of the Sub-district Integrated Socio-Economic Upgrading (1 sub-district 1 university) Project.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University said that he was very happy that the Innovation and Enterprise Section has been assigned by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation to carry out the Sub-district Integrated Socio-Economic Upgrading Project, which is a project enlisted in the Emergency Decree, which authorizes the Ministry of Finance to make a loan for problem solution and restoration of social and economic conditions affected by the spread of the Coronavirus 2019. During Phases 1-2, Khon Kaen University has carried out the project by employing those receiving impact from the pandemic or infected with Covid-19. The recent implementation has been effective and reached its goal. For the socio-economic restoration to be done continuously, the integrated 1 sub-district 1 university Phase 3 will be carried out covering areas of 135 sub-districts in the upper Northeast. The remaining sub-districts will be developed in the near future. “On behalf of Khon Kaen University, welcome Khon Kaen Governor, Presidents of all universities here today, Presidents of all Industrial Councils in the upper Northeast provinces, Khon Kaen Mayor, presidents of 135 sub-district administrative organizations, KKU administrators, and deans. I hope that Khon Kaen University, network universities, governmental organizations and private and local organizations will cooperate in propelling the Sub-district Integrated Socio-Economic Upgrading Project to solve the poverty problems in communities and restore the socio-economic roots in the Northeast.”

The Office of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation planned the Sub-district Integrated Socio-Economic Upgrading (1 sub-district 1 university) Project under the Emergency Decree that authorizes the Ministry of Finance to make a loan for problem solution and restoration of social and economic conditions affected by the spread of the Coronavirus 2019.  The major goals of the project are development of manpower and new skills and poverty alleviation in order that the public, newly graduates and students will be employed and thus the community economy will be revived. New occupations will be enhanced through development of new occupational skills in communities. Community Big Data will be compiled. The Sub-district Integrated Socio-Economic Upgrading Project is now under Phase 3, with collaboration of Khon Kaen University, network universities, governmental and private organizations and the localities, which are working towards the upgrading of social and economic status, alleviation of poverty problems in sub-districts and sustainable restoration of root economy in the Northeast. The project covers areas of many provinces in the upper Northeast, or 135 sub-districts. The implementation performed at each sub-district has been efficient and meets the needs of each area.
