Bringing Home Reputation Again! HUSO student of KKU awarded a cultural prize at the 18th Anniversary of Cultural Ministry

Friday October 2, 2020 – Ministry of Culture held the 18th Anniversary Celebration. Mr. Itthipon Khunpluem, Minister of the Ministry presided over the ceremony. On this occasion, the 2020 trophy awards honoring those who have done good deeds to Ministry of Culture were given. Khon Kaen University’s student, Mr. Torpong Chua-un, a fourth-year student of Department of Thai language, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was selected by the Cultural Office of Nong Bualampoo Province to receive the trophy honoring those who contribute to the Cultural Ministry in the category of children and youths. The event took place at the Auditorium of Thailand Cultural Center, Bangkok.

Mr. Itthipon Khunpluem, Minister of the Ministry explained that the foundation day of the Ministry is the third of October. The Ministry gives the awards called “Watana Khunatorn”, which means prizes for the individuals who have contributed to the growth of the Ministry. The awards are honorary for the awardees and thus they should be proud and continue to be the power behind the conservation of the local and national cultural heritage.

Since 2007, until 2019, the Ministry of Culture has awarded the “Watana Khunatorn” prizes to 2,649 individuals and organizations. In 2020, 475 individuals and organizations have been selected to receive the prizes, 156 being given to children and youths, 155 to juristic people or groups, 8 to outstanding provincial cultural offices, 186 to retirees, and 11 to outstanding civil servants.

Torpong Chua-un also passes the criteria to join the 6th “Read, write, and learn for criticism work” Project and has been awarded a scholarship at the amount of 20,000 baht. This project is organized by Bangkok Bnak and Prapansan Publisher. Torpong has written a critic column for a poem entitled, “Khlong Ban Khlong Muang” (House Verse, Town Verse: A Whirlpool in a temporary two-color sea) written by Mr. Thiwa. Torpong is scheduled to join the activity online through ZOOM during October 9-11, 2020.
