Developing temples in 3 areas raises KKU students’ public consciousness

Student Affairs and Alumni Division holds volunteer activity to raises KKU students’ public consciousness by developing temples in 3 areas

    Student Affairs and Alumni Division, Khon Kaen University held volunteer activity for KKU students to raise their public consciousness, encourage them to spend their time wisely, and help them know more about the surrounding community as well as Buddhism principles for life through volunteer activity. The 3 volunteer activities took place in 3 areas – Phuprabat Temple in Bantan Distrince in Chaiyaphum Province, Paphupansantitham Monastic Camp Site in Ubonrat District in Khon Kaen Province, and Makutwimuttikiri Temple (Phukat Temple) in Wiangkao District in Khon Kaen Province. The participants were students from various faculties. They participated in developing buildings and facilities in the temples.  

    Assoc. Prof. Piansak Pakdee, Vice President for Student Development and Nongkhai Campus, said extracurricular activities gained a lot of attention from students who had public consciousness and wanted to spend some time learning outside the classrooms to work on their own and collaborate with other people. Some students who had never participated in camping activity before could learn about teamwork, Buddhism ceremonies, volunteer activity that a community needed, generosity, and happiness resulted from doing good deeds. Student Affairs and Alumni Division realized the importance of producing qualified graduates and improving their potential to make them well-educated with a good heart and complete with knowledge, moral, and intelligence as indicated in the resolution when establishing  Khon Kaen University.  

    The first volunteer activity took place in Phuprabat Temple in Bantan Distrince in Chaiyaphum Province on June 30, 2019. Assoc. Prof. Piansak Pakdee led KKU students in cleaning the toilets, maintaining the area around the temple, listening to the sermon, and providing offering including medicine to the monks at the temple.

    The second volunteer activity took place in Paphupansantitham Monastic Camp Site in Ubonrat District in Khon Kaen Province on July 14, 2019. Students helped to clean the temple, built the roof over the water tanks, painted the walls, and fixed the water pipes including the toilet doors. 

    The third volunteer activity took place in Makutwimuttikiri Temple (Phukat Temple) in Wiangkao District in Khon Kaen Province on July 28, 2019. Students cleaned the area in the temple, planted trees, carried cement bags into the temple, participated in blessing ceremony in occasion of the birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Rama X, listened to the sermon, and providing offering including medicine to the monks at the temple.
