Experience the Future of Agriculture: Northeastern Agriculture Fair 2025 Returns to Khon Kaen University

Mark your calendars for Thailand’s most anticipated agricultural extravaganza! The 33rd Northeastern Agriculture Fair is set to transform Khon Kaen University into a vibrant showcase of innovation, tradition, and sustainable farming from January 24 to February 2, 2025.

A Vision for Tomorrow’s Agriculture

In an inspiring press conference at KKU’s Faculty of Agriculture, University President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul unveiled this year’s dynamic theme: “Creative Isan Agriculture: Driving Soft Power, Modernizing Agriculture, and Advancing Sustainable Development in Thailand.” The event’s remarkable success was highlighted by last year’s impressive turnout of 663,000 visitors and an economic impact exceeding 747 million baht.

Innovation Meets Tradition

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Darunee Jothityangkoon, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Organizing Committee Chairperson, revealed an exciting new addition: a Chef’s Table experience featuring talented culinary artists from Bueng Kan province, bridging the gap between farm-fresh produce and creative gastronomy.

Ten Days of Agricultural Excellence

Visitors will be immersed in a comprehensive agricultural experience featuring cutting-edge technology demonstrations, interactive learning sessions with industry experts, and live competitions celebrating local farming wisdom. The prestigious 26th Agricultural Academic Conference will run alongside exclusive guided tours led by agriculture students. A fresh market featuring student-grown produce will offer visitors the chance to take home the finest agricultural products.

Partner Organizations Showcase

The Department of Agriculture, under the leadership of Mr. Sitthipong Srisawangwong, Director of the Khon Kaen Seed Research and Development Center, will captivate visitors with an enchanting glowing plant garden, interactive demonstrations revealing crop production secrets, and engaging agricultural science quizzes offering premium prizes. Their exhibition theme, “Creative Agricultural Science: Enhancing Product Quality with Modern Agriculture, Positioning Isan as a Tropical Seed Hub,” promises to be both educational and entertaining.

The Department of Agricultural Extension, directed by Mr. Kamon Sopat, Director of the Agricultural Extension and Development Office Region 4, will present an impressive showcase of premium products from 20 provinces. Young Smart Farmers will demonstrate their innovative solutions, while daily hands-on agricultural demonstrations will provide practical knowledge for attendees. Their exhibition, titled “One Locality, One Outstanding High-Value Agricultural Product,” will highlight the region’s agricultural diversity.

Mr. Ittipat Jumrusboonhirun, Director of the Livestock Promotion and Development Division, provides guidance that the Department of Livestock Development will host prestigious royal trophy competitions for goats and buffaloes. Visitors can experience exclusive goat gastronomy offerings and explore interactive livestock breeding exhibitions. The department’s comprehensive display will honor the monarchy while showcasing the finest in livestock development.

The Rice Department, led by Ms. Sudkanung Pumcha, Director of the Khon Kaen Rice Seed Center, will introduce visitors to the ccelebrated “Chum Phae Ruby Rice,” a pending GI product of Khon Kaen. Live rice processing demonstrations and presentations on cutting-edge rice production technologies will be featured under their creative theme: “Creative Rice Department: Empowering Modern Isan Farmers for Sustainable Thai Rice Development.”

Soil development systems expert, Ms. Pranee Seehabun from the Land Development Department will oversee comprehensive soil testing services, analyzing up to 50 samples daily. Their exhibition, “Understanding the Status of Northeastern Soil Resources,” will feature interactive education zones and expert consultations for farmers, ensuring practical solutions for soil improvement.

This year, the plant sales area has been relocated to the southern section of the venue, making it easier than ever to browse and transport your favorite plants. To add to the convenience, a dedicated shuttle service will be available to assist with goods transportation within the fairgrounds.

But that’s not all! The southern area has been transformed into a stunning cool-season flower garden, the KKU Smart Flower Farm, showcasing vibrant plots of Cluster Flowers, Japanese Fireworks (Gomphrena), Verbena Fines, Cosmos, and even a one-of-a-kind three-colored rice paddy field. It’s a feast for the eyes and a perfect spot for photos!
