In a significant move to strengthen international academic cooperation, a high-level delegation from Khon Kaen University’s College of Computing conducted a three-day visit to Vietnam from November 27-29, 2024. The delegation was spearheaded by College Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sirapat Chiewchanwattana, accompanied by key faculty members including Asst. Prof. Dr. Pusadee Seresangtakul (Associate Dean for Academic Affairs), Asst. Prof. Dr. Chitsutha Soomlek (Associate Dean for Research and Innovation), Asst. Prof. Dr. Khamron Sunat (Head of the Computer Science Department), Asst. Prof. Dr. Sumonta Kasemvilas (faculty member), and Ms. Kasama Orthong (International Relations Officer).
The visit’s highlight came on November 27, when the College formalized partnerships with two of Vietnam’s leading institutions – Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and the University of Science – through the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs). These agreements lay the groundwork for comprehensive academic collaboration, encompassing student and faculty exchanges, cooperative education opportunities, and joint research initiatives.
During the visit, Asst. Prof. Dr. Khamron Sunat delivered a compelling keynote lecture at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine (PNTU). His presentation on “Nature-Inspired Computing: Evolutionary Feature Selection for High-Dimensional Data: A Fast and Efficient Algorithm with Medical Applications” drew considerable attention from the academic community.
The delegation extended their outreach on November 28-29, engaging in productive discussions with Eastern International University (EIU) and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH). These meetings focused on developing concrete plans for academic exchanges and collaborative research projects.
This diplomatic academic mission marks a pivotal moment in KKU’s College of Computing’s international strategy, reinforcing its position as a leading institution in ASEAN’s higher education landscape. The partnerships established during this visit are expected to create new opportunities for cross-cultural academic exchange and innovative research collaboration, benefiting students and faculty from all participating institutions.
