KKU Joins Forces with PSU and CMU for the 8th “Three United Forces for the Nation” Event, Pioneering Low Carbon Initiatives

In a remarkable display of academic collaboration, Khon Kaen University (KKU), Prince of Songkla University (PSU), and Chiang Mai University (CMU) have united for the 8th annual “Three United Forces for the Nation” event. Hosted by PSU at the Royal Phuket City Hotel, this year’s gathering focused on strengthening inter-university networks through innovative research and a commitment to low carbon initiatives.

The event was inaugurated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub, President of PSU, who welcomed over 600 participants, including university executives and staff. The presidents of the three universities shared their strategic visions, emphasizing future-oriented policies and collaborative efforts to address global challenges.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul, President of KKU, highlighted the university’s ambitious vision to become a “World-Leading Research and Development University” within the next three years. KKU aims to establish itself as a Wellness Corridor, a hub for health economy and medical research in the Greater Mekong Subregion. The university is also pioneering innovations like the Sodium-Ion Battery, poised to become a national Unicorn in alternative energy.
In line with its sustainability goals, KKU is implementing the KKU-ERP software to enhance organizational efficiency and launching environmental conservation projects, such as nano liquid fertilizers, to combat climate change and support Low Carbon Events.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Niwat Kaewpradub, President of Prince of Songkla University, announced that under the memorandum of understanding for cultural knowledge exchange between Khon Kaen University, Prince of Songkla University, and Chiang Mai University (Let’s Walk Together), the three leading universities in Thailand have committed to sharing knowledge on policies and operational processes that align with each institution’s vision and mission. This collaboration aims to build a network of cooperation across various fields, integrating efforts to achieve successful outcomes. This year, Prince of Songkla University has the honor of hosting the 8th “Three United Forces for the Nation” cultural exchange program. The initiative seeks to unite the strengths of the three universities to meet the needs of the community, society, and the nation, while also driving economic and social progress at a macro level.

The event featured a diverse range of knowledge exchange sessions across seven key topics, including curriculum design, global research strategies, and data-driven university management. Topic 1 on teaching and learning: Skill Mapping for curriculum design to match student competencies; Topic 2 on research: How to Hunt Global; Topic 3 on academic services: SROI calculation and utilization; Topic 4 on management: Data Driven University; Topic 5 on student development: student health management and administration system; Topic 6 on cultural preservation: Soft Power Creative Economy; Topic 7 on Carbon Neutral University and a sub-group for the retirees’ club. Esteemed speakers shared insights on these subjects, fostering a rich dialogue among participants.
A highlight of the event was a special lecture by Professor Emeritus Dr. Anek Laothamatas, former Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, on “The Future of Thai Higher Education and Workforce Development.” The session underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing education and societal progress.

As the event concluded, PSU ceremoniously passed the baton to KKU, which will host the 9th “Three United Forces for the Nation” event next year, promising continued collaboration and innovation among Thailand’s leading universities.
