KKU Hosts Dynamic Survival Skills Workshop for Students: Preparing for Public Transport Emergencies

Khon Kaen University recently launched an engaging and vital workshop aimed at equipping students from kindergarten through grade 12 with essential survival skills for handling emergencies on public transport. Held on October 15, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM, this initiative was spearheaded by the Central Administration Division, under the leadership of Mr. Tanya Pakdee, and the Security and Safety Division, led by Mr. Morakot Subin, in collaboration with the Khon Kaen Provincial Transport Office.

The workshop, whichh took place at the Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, attracted over 4,000 participants, including teachers and students from all grade levels. In 2020, road accidents claimed 32.7 lives per 100,000 people, highlighting the urgent need for such training.

Mr. Tanya Pakdee emphasized the dual nature of public transport: its convenience and cost-effectiveness, contrasted with the inherent risks posed by factors like reckless driving and the neglect of seat belt use. These risks can lead to passenger panic during emergencies. The workshop aimed to instill a strong sense of safety awareness and practical skills among students and teachers, enabling them to respond effectively in critical situations.

The training featured six expert speakers, Including officials from the Khon Kaen Provincial Transport Office, the Security and Safety Division of Khon Kaen University, and the KST-EV public transport system. These experts, along with support staff from the Central Administration Division, provided comprehensive safety training through realistic simulations of bus and van scenarios. This hands-on approach ensured that students could apply their newfound knowledge to enhance their daily safety and protect their property during emergencies.

Scheduled to continue on October 15-18, October 24, and October 29, 2024, the workshop sessions are being held at various Khon Kaen University Demonstration School campuses, including Education, Modindang, and International.
