COLA carries out a strengthening process – aiming at increasing revenues of PAOs all over Isan

Hotels’ duty charge is an important source of revenue of provincial administrative organizations (PAOs) all over the country. However, the problem usually arises in the duty collection, resulting in much less amount of money than it should be. In fact, the loss accounted for several thousands of million baht.
February 9, 2924 – College of Local Administration organized the “Seminar and Workshop on Administering Collection of Duties and Fees from Hotel Dwellers.” The objectives were to introduce the tool for increasing the efficiency of duty and fee collection from hotels and to brainstorm ideas from PAO personnel related to the said tool.

Participants to the seminar included directors of the Finance Division and officers in charge of duty collection, totaling 30 people from 9 PAOs in Isan, namely, from Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Roi-et, Nong Khai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Loei, Sakonnakhon and Udonthani. Other participants were 70 3rd year students of the Public Administration Program, majoring in Finance Management.

In this seminar, researchers from COLA presented a number of innovations that have been developed to increase the efficiency in collection of revenues for PAOs, such as a large-sized information-extracting tool and a duty payment warning tool. PAO representatives joined in testing the tools, brainstorming ideas, and reflecting the results of the test with the students prior to real application in the areas.

This seminar and workshop is part of the project for developing efficiency in administering collection of hotels’ duties based on big data and warning process. The seminar was supported by the Science, Research and Innovation Fund and the Area Development Fund Management Unit.
