2022 Kaohsiung International Invention & Design Expo (KIDE 2022), held at the International Convention Center Kaohsiung (ICCK), Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Three Thai researchers and inventors are post-doctoral students and researchers from Khon Kaen University, namely: 1) Mr. Yuthanakorn Khanapan, 2) Miss Jiraporn Jaikawang, and 3) Dr, Songyut Kaewmala, who are working in the field of material science and nano-technology, Department of Physics, Faculty of Sciences. The team, under the name RenewSi – new era of battery factory and energy of Khon Kaen University was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Nonglak Meethong, Ph.D. Their excellent work has brought pride and reputation to Thailand and Khon Kaen University for winning the WIIPA Grand Prize, the highest prize from the 2022 Kaohsiung International Invention & Design Expo (KIDE 2022). The work, in details, is on the “raw material recyclable resources for producing silicon as the electrode for production of quickly charging and discharging batteries”. The innovation makes use of silicon in electronics wastes and left-over materials from agriculture that undergo a process and form into shapes and can be used with electric vehicles. The work also won the Commercial Potential Award, the only team from Thailand to receive this.
