KKU and allies open the KKU Academic Honesty Center to upgrade educational quality standard to the international level

September 9, 2022 – Khon Kaen University by the Education and Academic Section, joining the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; the network under the National Research and Innovation Mission for the aged society; University of Georgia; and the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI) in the United States, held an opening ceremony of the KKU Academic Honesty Center of Khon Kaen University. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University presided over the ceremony. Assoc. Prof. Orathai Pia-ura, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences delivered the reporting speech. Among distinguished attendants were Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Academic Services; Asst. Prof. Nattaphat Anateerakul, Assistant to the President for Education and Academic Services; Prof. Vanchai Vadhanasap, M.D., Advisor to the Academic Honesty Board of Khon Kaen University; Prof. David Knauft, Ph.D.; Miss Sirinporn Diawtrakoon, Head of the National Research and Innovation Mission for the Aged Society, The National Research Commission; administrators and lecturers of Khon Kaen University, and the network representatives, totaling over 60 people. The event was held at the Committee Meeting Room, Ratanapittaya Building, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University.

The KKU Academic Honesty Center is established from the work of Prof. Prof. Vanchai Vadhanasap, M.D., who sees the importance of academic honesty and has developed a program and research work with Professor Dr. David Knauft from the University of Georgia International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI), USA. Khon Kaen University also sees the importance of integrity, especially when it involves academic works. Thus, the Academic Honesty Center of KKU is established in order to build academic integrity, which will in turn enable us to upgrade the instructional and educational level in Khon Kaen University towards international quality standards. At the same time, students’ honesty conscience would be raised before they graduate and work in different fields in the future.

Assoc. Prof. Orathai Pia-ura, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences added, “The founding of the Academic Honesty Center is successful owing to Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Academic Services. The center will be an organization that enhances the thinking process and the work related to academic integrity of students and faculties in the university. This means the building of academic immunity for lecturers and students in terms of honesty.”

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University explained, “The center will be administering and coordinating collaboration, compilation of data and development of knowledge. There will be rules and regulations for the work on academic integrity, which is very important for universities. Besides the place, there will be implementers, who are both academic and supporting staff, who will be working intensively for the development in this respect. I am pleased and ready to support in terms of both the budget and personnel for enhancing the policy and continuous implementation.”

The establishment of the center is under the expectation for the works to be the starting point in enhancing academic integrity of KKU until it reaches success.
