March 4, 2022, 14:00 p.m. at Sirikunakorn Room 5, Office of the President – Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University chaired the 5th Meeting of 2022 of the Covid-19 Vaccination Committee. The members attending included Asst. Prof. Arwut Yimtae, Vice President for Infrastructure and Environment; Asst. Prof. Sompong Sitthiprom, Ph.D., Assistant to the President for Security; Ajarn Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Assistant to the President for Special Affairs; Khun Sunipa Sawai-ngoen, Director of the Office of the President; and other members who attended the meeting online.
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University related that the following agenda were discussed and approved at the meeting: 1) the vaccination plan for students and staff – it has been reported that the third vaccination of the personnel was done as planned. The University’s concern is that about 9,000 students are due for the third shot in March, but only a little over 2,000 registered for the shot whereas about 7,000 are still quiet. There may be students staying home among the 7,000 or other reasons for their missing registration. The Committee therefore had to talk about the plan for campaigning so that this group of students will come for the vaccination, become immunized, and so the infection and severe symptoms if infected will be low.
The second agendum was on the practice if anyone tests positive from ATK test. Many students took ATK test by themselves and had positive result. They contacted different offices such as Khon Kaen Municipality or the Provincial Public Health Office. The University has been contacted by the province asking our students who are under the KKU Primary Care Unit (PCU) to contact PCU before reaching any office outside. The meeting therefore agreed to announce the following: 1) If a student develops symptoms like being infected and needs an ATK test kit, the student can ask for a set at PCU. The University will not leave ATK kits at each faculty like before. If students buy their own ATK set, they can report at PCU during office hours. If report is done outside office hours, PCU has to report to the Student Development Section. The Student Development Section will then provide certain instruction. If the result is positive, but the symptoms indicate the student is under the Green Patient Group, then the student does not have to worry, but can wait to report at PCU during office hours. PCU will then give instruction for self-care and prescribe medicine. If any student is categorized in the Yellow or Orange Group, the student will be sent to Srinagarind Hospital.
The 3rd issue was on TCAS Examination of the Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT). Khon Kaen University is responsible for 7 provinces. If there are students with positive Covid-19 Test and the students are under the Green Group with no serious symptom. These students should not miss their chance to take the test. KKU therefore will allow these students to take the test. KKU team in each of the 7 provinces will be responsible for this case.
