Friday July 30, 2021 – The Innovation and Enterprise Section, by the Intellectual Property Center and the Research Administrative Division of the Research and Graduate Study Section,  organized the IP DAY 2021, on “Entrepreneurs Meeting with Researchers to Find Research Topics and Create Innovation for Thai Industries”. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University gave the opening address, while Prof. Thidarat Boonmars, Ph.D., Vice President for Innovation and Enterprise conveyed a reporting speech. A lot of academics and interested people from the business sector joined the meeting, which was online.

IP DAY 2021, “Entrepreneurs Meeting with Researchers to Find Research Topics and Create Innovation for Thai Industries” was organized with an aim to stimulate and promote researchers to bring the research issues from the private sector to develop their research work, innovation, or intellectual properties of Khon Kaen University, so that the outcomes respond to the private sector’s problems and can be extended in their businesses in the future.

Prof. Thidarat Boonmars, Ph.D., Vice President for Innovation and Enterprise of Khon Kaen University explained that in the fiscal year 2020, some revenue of Khon Kaen University, over 3 million baht, was derived from utilization of the outcomes of research, innovation, and intellectual properties of Khon Kaen University. In terms of impact value, the revenue received by the private sector was over 30 million baht. However, there are still recommendations from the private sector that, even though the works have been originated from research conducted by research teams with expertise and knowledge, the research still lacked surveying of the needs of the private sector or the industrial sector. Thus, a lot of the work outcomes have not been put into use in the commercial circle.

“For IP DAY 2021 today, Khon Kaen University has gathered representatives of researchers with specific expertise in different fields to come and receive recommendations from the industrial sector and then develop research topics. This may lead to collaboration of research projects and development of innovations with the private sector in the future, bringing about commercial benefits,” said Prof. Thidarat.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University said that Khon Kaen University’s staff members have expertise and competency in carrying out research work, developing innovation and intellectual properties. The university is ready to support in terms of various facilities such as laboratories, tools and equipment. The work outcomes can be useful for the private sector and can be extended commercially. However, some of the present work outcomes do not answer the needs of the industrial sector and are required to be further developed for industrial purposes.

“In order to stimulate and promote investors in the industrial sector to commercially develop Khon Kaen University’s intellectual properties, and to answer the industrial sector’s issues, IP DAY 2021 is organized. The event has been collaborated by the private sector that joins with KKU researchers in order to find research issues and create innovations for the industrial sector. I hope that the event today is a good start that leads to research collaboration and development between KKU and the private sector,” said KKU President.

IP DAY 2021 “Entrepreneurs Meeting with Researchers to Find Research Topics and Create Innovation for Thai Industries” featured a forum on research topics, innovation creation in medicine, energy, medical supplies, cosmetics, supplementary foods, and foods, and another forum on research topics and special innovations by Khon Kaen’s Chamber of Commerce.
