"Foundation of Khon Kaen University is greatly beneficial, for higher education will be extended to a major region of the country. In the future, the effects will be witnessed in development and upgrading of the people. Success in founding Khon Kaen University is the success to be enjoyed by everyone.”

This was His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s remarks on the auspicious foundation ceremony of Khon Kaen University on December 20, 1967.

His Majesty King Rama 9’s remarks showed that he saw the importance of education equity. His Majesty founded Khon Kaen University as the first university in the Northeast. People were and have been grateful to his royal grace. Now, Khon Kaen University has responded to His Majesty’s remarks by extending knowledge and upgrading the living of people in the region as His Majesty’s wishes.

The Advanced-Thinking Mathematics Project under the Northeast Education and Public Health Problem Solution Project to lessen social gaps is another project that follows His Majesty King Rama 9’s footsteps. The aim is to build educational equity. The project started in 2014 and will go on until 2018.

“Education necessitates continuous development. I have worked for over 11 years and have never been discouraged because I believe the possibility of educational equity. Now, we have achieved in making the school with very low scores become a school with very high scores. But this is not as important as the happiness of pupils in the classrooms who learn mathematics with smiles on their faces. At present, the teaching innovation that develops thinking skill for the 21st Century, which is called the Open Approach has been applied in 120 schools, covering 20 provinces in the Northeast, 8 schools in the North, and is being extended to 3 southern border provinces this year. We hold on to the saying of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. “Education must reach the underprivileged areas. Otherwise, gaps will still exist. If education is unequal, we will continue to struggle from poverty and hunger,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Inprasith said.

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej intended to do away with poverty and hunger from Thailand. This philosophy brought a principle of educational implementation in Thailand. His Majesty gave us even the principle of instruction that teachers can always use, i.e., kindness, no competition, and unity.

“For me, every duty of His Majesty King Rama 9 is linked to education since education is the only thing that can enable the country to grow. All my life, I’ve been involved with teachers and teaching. And the teacher like His Majesty is my role model. I always teach my students to work with no condition, to be in unity so that the work will be successful, and to revise each day to see if we have done more for the others than for ourselves,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Inprasith related his route of producing teacher students for national development.

Although Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Inprasith had a chance to be close to His Majesty King Rama 9 only once when he received his master’s degree certificate, he feels the His Majesty is always with Thai people.

“In my life, I had only one chance to be close to him. But today, I think I’m closer to him than on that day. His Majesty King Rama 9 gave the educational principles in my heart and all teachers in Thailand,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Inprasith said with a smile on his face.
